
Officials combined forces to intercept a suspicious vehicle displaying a government agency emblem carrying undocumented Chinese nationals heading toward the border to exit the country. The driver claimed he received orders from his superior to pick them up and take them to their destination.
On 7 Apr 2026, under the direction of Ms. Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, and Police Major General Pasawi Ruangphu, Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, in line with policies to crack down on transnational crime and Chinese phone scam gangs exploiting Kanchanaburi’s border area to flee the country toward neighboring Myanmar via natural routes near Phra Chedi Sam Ong checkpoint.
At 3:00 p.m. on 6 Apr, joint forces including administrative officials of Thong Pha Phum District led by Mr. Anusorn Sangasang, District Chief, along with police from Thong Pha Phum Police Station, Kanchanaburi Immigration, Border Patrol Police Company 135, and soldiers from Lat Ya Task Force set up a security checkpoint on Highway 323 after receiving a tip-off about illegal transport of Chinese nationals along this route.
Inspection revealed a suspicious black Toyota Vigo pickup truck reportedly bearing an official government agency emblem on both side doors. Authorities signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection. Inside, the driver, Mr. Sathit, 30, from Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi, was found along with a Chinese passenger named Mr. Long Tao, 27, who lacked identification documents and was unable to speak Thai. All were taken into custody for questioning.
Initial questioning revealed Mr. Sathit admitted he was ordered by his agency supervisor to pick up a group of Chinese nationals at a gas station in Thong Pha Phum District and deliver them to a destination but was apprehended before completing the task. Authorities charged the driver with aiding, concealing, or assisting foreigners illegally entering the country to evade arrest, and charged the Chinese man with illegal entry without permission.
Authorities will conduct a thorough verification of the vehicle displaying the government agency emblem. If it is found that a government vehicle was misused for criminal purposes or the emblem was forged, strict legal action will be taken against all involved parties.
