Residents in Pathum Thani were alarmed to find a mysterious bag leaking liquid and emitting a foul odor, with maggots crawling all over it. Authorities cordoned off the area to investigate and discovered it contained decomposed puppy remains. The local crowd quickly dispersed.
At 3:00 p.m. on 17 Apr 2026 GMT+7, a reporter reported that Police Lieutenant Anusorn Wiangsima, an investigator at Khlong Luang Police Station, received a report of a mysterious black suitcase placed beside a house in Village No. 4, Khlong Sam Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. He, along with forensic police and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, proceeded to inspect the scene.
The scene was a two-story townhouse. Beside the house stood a black suitcase leaking yellow liquid, crawling with maggots, and emitting a strong stench that filled the area. The suitcase was locked with a combination lock and could not be opened. Locals who heard the news gathered to see what was happening.
After nearly two hours, police opened the suitcase and found decomposed puppy remains inside, crawling with maggots.
Paramedic Sergeant Chatchai Jakrit from the Poh Teck Tung rescue team said that when they first found and lifted the suitcase, it was relatively light but gave off a strong odor, with blood and pus leaking alongside maggots. They hesitated and were unsure what was inside, so they waited for police to arrive. The suitcase was locked and could not be opened initially.
Mr. Tiwakorn Pho Khao, 22, the first person to report to the property management, revealed that the mysterious suitcase had been left at the corner of the house from around noon to the afternoon on that day. He did not see who placed it because he was inside the house at the time, until a neighbor informed his mother about the suspicious bag. Observing the suitcase, they noticed maggots and abnormal liquid leaking, accompanied by a strong foul odor similar to that of a dead animal. The bag had been left unattended for a long time with no one claiming ownership, causing local residents to be wary and reluctant to touch or open it. They decided to notify authorities for investigation, fearing something abnormal might be involved.
Mrs. Lamyai Adnan, 77, said that at 5:30 a.m. that day, she went out to collect bottles from houses and was about to make her usual morning alms offering to monks. Passing by the spot, she saw the suitcase and noticed liquid, resembling water, seeping from inside. She did not tell anyone and continued past the area, thinking it was just an ordinary bag. She did not see any suspicious individuals nearby.
Ms. Ning, a Vietnamese national, revealed that her father, who is Thai, had retrieved the suitcase from a trash bin at a market around 5:00 a.m. that day. After bringing it home, family members noticed a strong foul smell but tried to open it without success. They then moved it to the front of the house, intending to wait for her father to return from selling goods so he could return the bag to the market.
