Myanmar Military Drops Bombs on Mine Only 15 km from Thai Border, Injuring 12 Locals

Myanmar military aircraft dropped bombs on the Mae Kasa mine in Kayin State, just 15 km from Thailand, injuring 12 villagers who had to be sent to Thailand for medical care.

According to reporters, on 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Myanmar's military deployed one Y-12 aircraft to bomb the Mae Kasa mining area in Aso Khan village, Phayathonzu Township, Jaing Sek Ji District, Kayin State, Myanmar. There were two bombing runs: the first at 14:30 GMT+7, dropping six bombs, and the second at 17:00 GMT+7, dropping another six bombs. This resulted in 12 injuries—11 men and 1 woman.

All 12 injured individuals received humanitarian assistance coordinated by Thai authorities. Arrangements were made to transport the injured to receive treatment at Sangkhla Buri Hospital in Thailand. Eleven with minor injuries were treated and discharged back to their residences, while one patient with serious injuries remains hospitalized. If his condition improves, he too will be sent back.

The attacked area is a community located within the territory controlled by the Karen National Liberation Army/Karen National Union (KNLA/KNU), Division 6. It is also a mining site operated by Chinese private businessmen who hold mining concessions granted by the KNLA/KNU, Division 6. The bomb sites were opposite the Samakkhi Channel, Village 6, Pang Sanuk, Nong Lu Subdistrict, Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province, about 15 km inside from the Thai border. However, the incident did not affect the Thai border in any way.
