Volunteer Spirit Unites to Develop Khao Khayai, Chainat Province, Aiming to Restore Forest Abundance

Dedicated teacher leads "Volunteer Spirit Unites" to develop the Khao Khayai area in Chainat Province, organizing activities every Friday with the hope of restoring the forest to a lush condition.

On 2 May 2026, Mr. Nirut Khemngoen, Director of the Chainat Primary Educational Service Area Office, led a team of administrators and education personnel, including Mr. Anupong Khlongkan, Mr. Somraksak Wannonnam, and Second Lieutenant Thanachot Hraira, Deputy Directors of the Chainat Primary Educational Service Area Office, along with administrators, teachers, and staff from the Wat Sing District Education Coordination Center, to participate in the "Volunteer Spirit Unites to Develop Khao Khayai Forest, Chainat Province" activity at Khao Khayai area, Khao Tha Phra Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chainat Province.

Mr. Nirut Khemngoen said the main objective of this activity is to restore the forest condition in the Khao Khayai area to a lush state and to actively promote the policy of increasing green spaces in Chainat Province in a concrete and sustainable way.

The Chainat Primary Educational Service Area Office has established a plan for all 12 education coordination centers under its authority to rotate participation in volunteer activities regularly every Friday, demonstrating unity and contributing to the conservation of local natural resources continuously.

The project to restore the desert-like Khao Khayai to a paradise began in 2015, initiated by Mr. Sutthipong Juljarern, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, when he served as Governor of Chainat Province (he had nearly fatal accident at this site).

Khao Khayai is a public utility area that had been neglected, suffering drought and illegal soil excavation, covering about 1,000 rai. It includes about 157 rai of hill terrain and around 843 rai of foothill plains, located near the Chainat Sports Stadium (Khao Phlong), approximately 8.6 kilometers from Chainat town center.

Currently, thanks to the dedication of volunteers, the once barren and treeless Khao Khayai has been transformed into an area that purifies the air for the people of Chainat. The forest has improved significantly from the desert-like condition it once was. Various planted trees have grown, providing shade where they have survived, reflecting the commitment, teamwork, and mobilization of government officials, private sectors, and the public who have planted and cared for the trees to restore the area to its present condition.
