A fire broke out in a dyno test room at a company in Pathum Thani, burning a vehicle tuner alive at the scene. His younger brother, who accompanied him, saw it all but could not save him. The shop owner revealed that sparks had hit the soundproof insulation before the fire flared up intensely.
At 19:50 on 27 May 2026, Police Lieutenant Thanakorn Mora, deputy investigator at Khlong Luang Police Station, received a report of a fire in a vehicle horsepower testing room (dyno test) with a fatality at a company in Khlong Song subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province. Upon receiving the report, he coordinated four fire trucks from Khlong Luang Municipality and was joined by Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchai Saengsong, deputy investigator and acting chief of Khlong Luang Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kawinwet Wiriyasiripakdi, deputy chief of the police operations division, the investigation team, forensic officers, volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, and doctors from Thammasat University Hospital for the investigation.
The incident occurred in a single-story concrete building. Inside the test room, foam and fiberglass insulation were installed for soundproofing. Flames were raging fiercely throughout the room. Firefighters quickly doused the flames, taking about 30 minutes to control the fire. Upon inspection, a Honda Accord parked on the testing platform was completely burned. Additionally, in the lounge area, one deceased was found: Mr. Thanawat Dulalumpa, known as 'Chang Wain,' 48 years old, a vehicle tuner. His body was badly burned from the fire.
Mr. Saichon Dulalumpa, known as 'Chang Auan,' 47, the deceased's younger brother, said he and his brother, along with a vehicle tuner, brought a customer's car for a horsepower test at the shop for the second time. While tuning the engine, sparks flew from the exhaust pipe and ignited the foam soundproof insulation behind it, causing the fire to spread rapidly. At that moment, he was standing outside the room talking on the phone with a customer. When he turned back, he saw the room fully engulfed in flames and could no longer see his brother.
Mr. Kritthaphop Pangkaew, 35, the shop owner, revealed that before starting the dyno test, he explained how to operate the equipment, including the emergency stop button, and had prepared a fire extinguisher for customers. When the fire started at the rear, he tried to use the extinguisher to put it out but failed. Seeing the deceased being burned, he switched to a chemical extinguisher to assist. At that time, there were four people inside the room. Initially, the injured were conscious, but the fire spread violently from the sparks hitting the soundproof insulation, making rescue impossible in time.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchai Saengsong, deputy investigator and acting chief of Khlong Luang Police Station, said that initially, the area was cordoned off to await forensic officers to conduct a detailed investigation into the fire's cause. Witnesses present at the scene are being questioned. The deceased's body was handed over to Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers for transfer to the Forensic Institute at Thammasat University Hospital for a thorough autopsy before contacting the family to arrange traditional funeral rites.
