78-Year-Old Generous Businessman Found Dead in Srinakarin Dam Reservoir

Search teams have found the body of a 78-year-old generous businessman who went missing after drowning in the Srinakarin Dam reservoir in Kanchanaburi Province. The body has been sent for a detailed autopsy to determine the cause of death and to proceed with legal actions.

The case involves Mr. Chatri Thongkham, 78, a generous businessman and husband of a well-known local chief in Kanchanaburi Province, who fell into the water and went missing in the Srinakarin Dam reservoir at Village No. 4, Nong Ped Subdistrict, Si Sawat District, Kanchanaburi. Following this, Ms. Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi, ordered Mr. Chaka Asasna, Si Sawat District Chief, Mr. Panan Srisuwan, Chief of Nong Ped Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Police Colonel Manop Namprasanthai, Superintendent of Si Sawat Police Station, and Mr. Wiwat Kitcharoen, Security Officer of Si Sawat District, to establish an Incident Command (IC) center and convene the diving team search operation, which has entered its fourth day.

Earlier, a friend of Mr. Chatri’s wife brought offerings to perform a ritual asking for forgiveness from the local sacred spirits at the water’s center near where Mr. Chatri was believed to have fallen, seeking a smooth search operation.

This morning (3 June 2026), rescue personnel from various sectors, including the Pitak Kanchan Foundation, Ruamkatanyu Foundation Nakhon Pathom (Varee), Suksa Sanuk Foundation Nakhon Pathom, and Ruamkatanyu Foundation Headquarters (Nathi Kanchan), began meetings to prepare for the search operation. They divided duties into diving, boat, safety, medical, drone, and sonar teams before commencing the search.

Later in the morning, Police Colonel Manop Namprasanthai, Superintendent of Si Sawat Police Station, accompanied by Police Lieutenant Colonel Anas Triperi, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, and Mr. Wiwat Kitcharoen, Security Officer of Si Sawat District, visited Village No. 4, Nong Ped Subdistrict, after receiving notification from the IC missing person operation center that Mr. Chatri, a generous businessman and close associate of the well-known local chief of Kaeng Sian Subdistrict, was found floating face down in the middle of the Srinakarin Dam reservoir. They coordinated with the on-duty doctor from Tha Kradan Hospital for a preliminary autopsy before sending the body for detailed examination at the Forensic Institute, Police General Hospital.

Police Major General Pasavee Ruangpu, Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, instructed Police Colonel Jompol Rujiradumrongchai, Deputy Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, to oversee the investigation. The inquiry officer is to interview witnesses at the scene and surrounding areas to clarify any doubts and compile the case file.

It is expected that tomorrow (4 June 2026), relatives will hold a funeral ceremony for Mr. Chatri at the Dharmasangwet Hall, Hua Hin Temple, Tha Makham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province.
