"Khao Kheow Open Zoo" welcomes an adorable new member "Nong Wan" a female capybara pup, healthy and strong, ready to bring smiles to visiting tourists
On 27 July 2026, it was reported that Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, welcomed a new member to its capybara family after mother capybara "Krati" gave birth to one pup on 22 June 2026. The father, named "Siang," has created excitement and smiles among visitors.
Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, revealed that the capybara pup named "Nong Wan" is a healthy female. The zoo allows the mother to naturally care for her pup to reduce stress and promote natural development. Nong Wan is lively, playful, and very charming. Visitors can see the capybara family daily at the capybara exhibit at Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
Additionally, Khao Kheow Open Zoo invites tourists to celebrate the holiday on 28 July 2026 by offering free admission for children aged up to 12 years or with a height not exceeding 135 centimeters (only on 28 July 2026). Visitors can enjoy special activities throughout the day, including meeting cute wildlife mascots, participating in the Night Zoo to observe nocturnal animal behavior in a unique atmosphere, and engaging in close-up nature and wildlife learning experiences—perfect for family leisure trips.
The capybara (Capybara) is the world's largest rodent, resembling a giant guinea pig with short ears, no tail, and webbed feet that aid in swimming. Its fur ranges from light brown to dark brown or black. When fully grown at about 15–18 months old, it weighs around 50–70 kilograms and stands about 45 centimeters tall. Native to South America, capybaras are social animals living in groups. They enjoy soaking in water and are skilled swimmers and divers.
