The atmosphere at the water-pouring ceremony for Police Colonel Thongchai Yenprasert, Chief of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, at Saphan Sung Temple was somber as close associates gathered to pay their respects before the evening Buddhist chanting ceremony today.
On 11 August 2026, former Nonthaburi MP Chalerm Riewrang reportedly attacked and shot Police Colonel Thongchai Yenprasert, Chief of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, inside the Provincial Administrative Organization office located within the Nonthaburi City Hall, resulting in the chief's death as previously reported.
Latest updates report that at Saphan Sung Temple in Khlong Phra Udom Subdistrict, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi, the family brought the body of Police Colonel Thongchai Yenprasert, former chief of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, to the temple’s sermon hall, which is being used for the funeral and Buddhist chanting ceremonies.
Many individuals closely associated with and having worked alongside Police Colonel Thongchai in Nonthaburi, including the Provincial Administrative Organization executives, heads of various government agencies, civil servants, police officers, local leaders such as subdistrict heads and village chiefs, as well as thousands of local residents, gradually arrived to pay their respects.
Before the afternoon water-pouring ceremony began, attendees formed long queues to offer their final respects amid a deeply sorrowful atmosphere shared by the family and mourners. The hosts requested all attendees to refrain from taking photos inside the hall during the ceremony and to avoid asking about the violent incident that caused distress to the family.
At 4:45 p.m., officials from the Royal Household Bureau conducted the royal water-pouring ritual for the body, presented a royal gold-engraved coffin, set up a five-tiered umbrella decoration, and accompanied the ceremony with traditional wind and drum music. Later that evening, the first Buddhist chanting ceremony was held as part of the funeral rites.
