Villagers were baffled when, while casting a fishing net in the canal in front of the Bang Pakong watergate, they found a 15-inch brass Buddha statue submerged underwater. They quickly cleaned it and reported it to the police. Lottery enthusiasts did not miss the chance to examine the 'lucky numbers' under the statue's base.
At 14:30 on 28 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Amnat Yimniam, Deputy Superintendent of Bang Pakong Police Station, along with patrol officers and the investigative team from Tha Kham Subdistrict, rushed to inspect after villagers found a Buddha statue in the canal in front of the expanded Phan Thong watergate, Moo 4, Tha Kham Subdistrict, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province.
Upon arrival at the scene, they met Mr. Chawiang Chuayraksa, 67, a local fisherman who had lifted a brass Buddha statue with a 15-inch lap width and about 1.20 meters tall from underwater. The statue’s gold coating had been mostly eroded by water. They then took the statue to clean it.
Under the statue's base, the number 7723 was found along with the name Mr. Choon Buayom, who reportedly offered it to his karmic creditor. It is still unknown from which temple the statue was stolen. Police will expedite checking temples to identify where the statue was taken from and discarded in the water.
Mr. Chawiang said he was casting his fishing net in front of the water gate when the net caught on something underwater. At first, he thought it was a cement block or tree stump, but upon retrieving it, he was shocked to find a 15-inch brass Buddha statue.
