Surveillance footage captures the moment the owner stepped out of a luxury car, and just seconds later, the vehicle rolled into a canal and sank right before their eyes. Rescue teams spent over two hours retrieving it from the water.
At 8:00 a.m. on 5 Sep 2026, Bang Phli Police Station received a report of an electric sedan rolling into the Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal near an auto parts shop along the canal road in Bang Pla Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. They coordinated with a tow truck, traffic police, and Bang Phli rescue teams to assist.
At the scene, authorities found a white luxury electric car registered in Bangkok had rolled from the parking area in front of the shop, crossed a two-lane road, and fallen into the Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal, submerging completely in about five meters of water. They called in a large crane to plan and execute the recovery, which took over two hours. Traffic in one lane was temporarily closed, causing several kilometers of congestion, before normal flow resumed after the car was retrieved.
Closed-circuit footage from the auto parts shop by the canal road shows the owner parking the white luxury car on a sloped area in front of the store. Moments after parking and stepping out, the car began rolling backward across the road and plunged into the nearly five-meter-deep Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal.
Mr. A (alias), the owner’s son, explained that the vehicle rolled into the canal because his mother had not turned off the engine upon arrival. She had engaged the parking gear and applied the handbrake before exiting the car. Within less than a minute, the car rolled across the road. Fortunately, oncoming drivers saw it in time and braked, preventing any collisions.
He apologized to those affected by the incident and urged all drivers to thoroughly check their vehicle’s safety and gear settings when parking and before exiting to prevent similar accidents.
The car involved is a new luxury electric vehicle imported less than two years ago, valued at over six million baht. It is covered by voluntary insurance.
