In Lopburi, a female teacher driving a car to pick up students was involved in an accident when she hit a motorcycle, causing it to fall and slide along the road. The male rider was injured, while his wife, riding as a passenger, was thrown off and died at the scene. CCTV footage is being reviewed to find the real cause of the accident.
At 06:00 on 19 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Danai Det Kannarich, Deputy Investigating Officer of Mueang Lopburi Police Station, received a report of a car colliding with a motorcycle near a U-turn on Phahonyothin Road, around kilometer marker 157, Moo 4, Thanon Yai Subdistrict, Mueang Lopburi District. There were both injuries and a fatality. Upon receiving the report, he traveled to investigate the scene with the on-duty doctor from Phranarayani Maharaj Hospital and volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Lopburi branch.
The scene is a six-lane road with a median strip. On the lane heading toward Khok Samrong District, a white BYD electric sedan registered in Bangkok was parked close to the median. The car showed collision damage from the front light assembly extending to the left wheel arch, with a broken side mirror. Ms. Pornpicha, 35, stood by the police in a state of shock.
At the accident site on the road, the deceased was identified as Ms. Kan Duanchaoem, 45, from Phayuha Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan Province. She lay on her back with severe wounds to the back of her head and blood pooling on the ground. The motorcycle had been struck and thrown into the roadside bushes.
Inspection revealed a blue Yamaha Fino motorcycle registered in Lopburi, showing damage to the right rear, with the exhaust pipe bent and broken. Mr. Therdsak Pinpa, 49, the deceased’s husband and the rider, sustained a head wound and abrasions on his body. After volunteers provided initial first aid, he refused hospital treatment, still unable to accept his wife’s death before his eyes. He sat weeping and calling her name in deep sorrow.
Ms. Pornpicha, the teacher, recounted that she had left home to pick up students in Khok Samrong District to take them to a sports competition in Lopburi city. At the accident point, the motorcycle suddenly made a close-range U-turn. She was unable to brake in time, causing a severe collision that resulted in injuries and a fatality.
Mr. Therdsak, the deceased’s husband, wept in grief and said that before the accident, he had ridden the motorcycle to pick up his wife from Lopburi train station and was carrying her home. He said he barely remembers the moments of the accident because it happened so fast and expressed his sorrow at losing his wife.
CCTV from a nearby shop recorded the incident, showing the sound of the collision as the car struck the motorcycle, which was thrown along with the woman’s body. The car, traveling at speed, hit the motorcycle from behind, causing it to flip and sparks to fly as metal scraped the road. It was not a U-turn. Preliminary findings suggest both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the car rear-ended the motorcycle.
Police will review the CCTV footage again and conduct further interviews with both parties to determine the true cause. The body has been handed to Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers for examination at Phranarayani Maharaj Hospital before being returned to the family for religious funeral rites.
