A human skeleton was found in an abandoned house, later identified as a retired government school teacher. An elderly neighbor revealed she had not seen the woman for over 10 years and assumed she had moved elsewhere. The discovery was made after a thief broke into the house to steal items and fled in panic.
At 12:30 p.m. on 22 Sep 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chetthayanin Niamkroaphet, deputy investigation officer at Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station, was notified of a human skeleton found inside an abandoned house near the Chachoengsao Provincial Bus Terminal. He reported to Police Colonel Pongsan Meesri, chief of the station, before heading to the scene, coordinating with forensic doctors from Phutthasothon Hospital and Chachoengsao rescue officials to assist with the investigation.
The scene was at house number 548, located in an alley behind the Chachoengsao Provincial Bus Terminal on Chachoengsao-Bangpakong Road, Na Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Chachoengsao District. The house was abandoned with large trees and spreading Bodhi tree roots covering the iron gate. Branches and weeds densely covered the walkway to the house. Officials had to push through about 15 meters of vegetation before reaching the house, a two-and-a-half-story structure made of concrete and wood.
Beside the house was a garage containing various tools and equipment scattered outside. Inside the garage was a gray-black Toyota Corona sedan, license plate ก-5245 Chachoengsao, in a dismantled state with front and rear parts and wheels removed. One window of the house had been pried open; this window belonged to the deceased’s bedroom.
Inside the house, officials found the ground floor hall ransacked with scattered belongings. The bedroom adjacent to the garage, with its window left open, had a large amount of rainwater inside. Next to this room, they found a human skeleton with skull fragments scattered apart from other bones. Rescue workers collected all skeletal remains and brought them outside for doctors to examine.
It was later confirmed that the deceased was Ms. Pairin Charoenpong, aged 70, a former government teacher who taught science at Benchamaracharangsi School.
After the scene examination, doctors and police assigned Chachoengsao rescue workers to transport the skeleton to the Police General Hospital for safekeeping and further forensic examination according to legal procedures.
Mr. Thinkorn Cheysawat, 28, known as “Mechanic Note,” who repairs motorcycles nearby, said he has lived in the area about 3-4 years and often passed by the house, which had always appeared abandoned with no people entering or leaving. However, 2-3 days ago, police caught a suspect who had broken into the house to steal items. The suspect fled but was apprehended by police. He believes this incident led authorities to inspect the house and discover the skeleton.
Mrs. Chong Unjaroen, 92, a neighbor of Ms. Pairin, said Ms. Pairin was a retired government teacher who left service 2-3 years before retirement. She usually lived alone with no relatives nearby. Mrs. Chong had not seen her for over 10 years.
Mrs. Chong thought Ms. Pairin might have moved to live with relatives in another province because the alley is a dead end, and if Ms. Pairin had driven in or out, she would have passed Mrs. Chong’s house. Yet she had not been seen for many years. There were never any unusual smells or signs until police and rescue vehicles arrived at the house today, revealing the skeleton inside, which greatly shocked her.
