A tragic flood in Bang Pu resulted in a 6-year-old boy drowning and going missing. Divers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation conducted a search lasting over 10 minutes before discovering his body. It is believed he was playing near his flooded home before accidentally falling into a drainage canal.
At 09:00 on 28 Sep 2026, Pol. Col. Watchara Thepsen, Chief of Bang Pu Police Station, received a report of a 6-year-old boy drowning in Bang Pu, Samut Prakan Province. He coordinated with divers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation to investigate and assist.
The scene was a single-story house situated within a garden. The boy went missing near a drainage canal about 20 meters from the house. His sandals were found by the canal edge, suggesting that might be where he fell into the water. Divers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation quickly began an underwater search while the boy’s mother, Supattra Phulperm, 36, hoped for the best.
After about 10 minutes, officials found the body of Thanawit Supprasert, also known as Nong Shogun, aged 6, submerged and deceased. They brought his body ashore, and upon seeing her son, the mother broke down in tears and embraced his lifeless body, deeply moving the officials and witnesses.
According to 77-year-old Jamlong Phulperm, the boy’s grandfather, he and his family have cared for the Pornprap family cemetery area for over 30 years. The boy’s school had announced a two-day closure due to flooding. Before the incident, he last saw his grandson playing in front of the house and told him to come inside. He then went to boil water and drank coffee indoors because the area outside was flooded.
About half an hour later, he became concerned when he couldn’t find his grandson. He called the boy’s mother, who was resting in a room, and together they began searching. At first, they did not find the boy’s sandals. He then searched nearby areas from the house to near a bridge and neighboring villages, thinking the sandals might have been carried away by water currents if the boy had fallen in, but found no clues and returned home.
Later, the boy’s mother reported finding his sandals at the same spot where the boy had been playing near the water earlier. The family concluded he likely fell into the drainage canal and drowned, prompting them to alert authorities who then launched a search that ultimately recovered his body.
Officials initially believe the boy was playing near his flooded home before accidentally falling into the drainage canal. The water levels around the house and in the canal were similar, and due to the flooding, the boy may not have realized the depth in that area, leading to the tragic accident.
Authorities are continuing to investigate and collect evidence. The Bang Pu police investigation team will interview involved parties further to determine the true cause of the incident.
