In Kanchanaburi, flash floods swept away the earthen wall of a tailings pond in Thong Pha Phum district, causing collapse and raising concerns that chemicals could leak into water sources. Meanwhile, the State Railway of Thailand adjusted train operations after flooding submerged the tracks near Tham Kra Sae Bridge between Tha Kilen and Nam Tok.
On 28 Sep 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that heavy rainfall in Chalae subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi province, caused a large accumulation of rainwater and flash floods. This led to an increase in water volume behind the Chani dam, with continuous inflow. The situation remains concerning, with flooding along the entire Chani, Khao Phra In, and Suea streams.
Later, in the nearby area of Village 5, Chalae subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi, the earthen wall of a tailings pond at the Song Tho mine, which also serves as a dirt road around the pond, was eroded by water. This caused a collapse and separation of about 30 meters of the road, which also functions as an earthen dam trapping mineral sediment. The breach allowed water containing mineral residues and lead waste to flow out of the pond into natural water sources.
Recently, many local residents have expressed concern that lead contaminants might flow into the main river, potentially causing widespread damage. They have urged relevant authorities to conduct urgent inspections.
At 14:20, the water situation at Ban Kao Bridge over the Kwae Noi River in Ban Kao subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi district, drew local residents to monitor the river’s water level, which had risen to the height of the bridge. Mr. Prasan Sanguanpan, Chief Executive of Ban Kao Subdistrict Administrative Organization, and Mr. Thawisak Saengkhom, member of the Kanchanaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Council for District 4, inspected the bridge’s structural integrity. They found large gaps at the joints where water was visible beneath the bridge, prompting them to notify the highway department to check safety. Heavy trucks may be prohibited from crossing while water levels remain high. The flooding has submerged public exercise parks and riverside resorts along the Kwae Noi River. Agricultural areas have suffered significant damage and assessments will follow once waters recede.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reported that flooding near Tham Kra Sae Bridge, between Tha Kilen and Nam Tok in Kanchanaburi, has made the railway tracks impassable. Train services through this section have been temporarily suspended since early morning to ensure passenger safety, affecting two additional train services:

Reports indicate that the water level in the Kwae Noi River near Tham Kra Sae railway bridge has risen about 6 to 7 meters above normal. The riverside area is leased by the State Railway to private operators for resorts. Flooding has submerged dozens of resort buildings, likely causing extensive damage.
