Villagers Remove Sandbags Again in Front of SWU as Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road Floods Over 30 cm

Ignoring legal issues, villagers removed sandbags once again in front of Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), stating that water should be allowed to flow through natural channels. As of 9 p.m. today, flooding on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road exceeded 30 centimeters.

On 4 October 2026, reports indicated that earlier in the afternoon, the Nakhon Nayok Highway Department placed sandbags to block water flow in an effort to reduce water levels on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road. This was done following an agreement with villagers to release water at certain points to help drain water from the village.

However, at 8 p.m., villagers affected by the flooding in Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Ongkharak District, came out to remove the sandbags again. They said that although the highway department allowed some water to pass, only a few small openings were left. Worse, the sandbags were placed higher and stretched longer than before, prompting the victims to dismantle them.

Ms. Yupin, one of the victims, said villagers have suffered greatly for 10 days, with water reaching their ankles making walking nearly impossible. They have been self-reliant, but this time villagers refused to accept it because the highway department blocked the only natural drainage path through which water flows into the Rangsit Canal.

After villagers removed the sandbags the night before, water levels decreased. But when the highway department placed sandbags again today, water levels rose rapidly. This was why villagers had to remove the sandbags once more. Everyone knows this is not legal and not right, but no one is willing to tolerate it anymore. Over the past 10 days, the highway department blocked water from draining with sandbags. Those not affected cannot understand this. No one wants their home flooded; the best is to let water drain naturally.

If the highway department places sandbags to block water flow again, villagers are ready to remove them once more. Therefore, the only possible agreement is to stop placing sandbags and allow water to flow naturally. No one wants flooding on the road, that is understood, but no one wants their own home flooded either.

After villagers removed the sandbags from Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued a warning that water had flooded the road over 30 centimeters deep, cautioning that small vehicles could not pass.
