Strict Control Over Transfer of 92 Patients from Sothornchai Nursing Home Completed

The Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi Province supervised the strict transfer of patients from Sothornchai Nursing Home all 92 cases completed

At 17:00 on 7 Oct 2026, Mr. Tharat Lueangsa-ard, Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi, led government agencies including the Department of Mental Health and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to transfer patients and elderly residents from Sothornchai Nursing Home to medical facilities and MSDHS offices in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi provinces. Approximately 9 vans were used in the transfer operation, which lasted over 2 hours, moving a total of 92 patients as summarized below.

  • Somdet Chaopraya Hospital: 9 patients
  • Kalyarajanakarin Institute: 25 patients
  • Srithanya Hospital: 22 patients
  • Thamoung Hospital: 2 patients
  • MSDHS Kanchanaburi: 5 patients
  • Relatives took home: 29 patients

Mr. Tharat Lueangsa-ard, Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi, stated that after the closure order, coordination was made with the three hospitals receiving patients—Kalyarajanakarin Institute, Somdet Chaopraya Hospital, and Srithanya Hospital—to continue care for psychiatric patients, mostly those classified as green level. All patients were transferred today, with 5 patients remaining under the care of MSDHS in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi.

Meanwhile, if relatives do not take patients home, they will stay at the three hospitals. Authorities have successfully contacted all patients' relatives, and all patients are informed.

The psychological support team who spoke with patients found that some were confused about having to move. Many had friends living with them who they must now separate from; some patients had lived there for as long as 17 years. Farewell hugs were exchanged between patients and the staff who cared for them.

Regarding the facility itself, the owner can remain on-site but the business operation is closed. Any future reopening after renovations will require approval from the Health Service Support Office Region 5.

The owners, Mrs. Maew and her son, accepted the closure order and have cooperated fully.
