Body of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Official Found Floating in Chao Phraya River near Phra Pradaeng

The body of a 31-year-old Bangkok Metropolitan Administration official was found face down floating in the Chao Phraya River near Phra Pradaeng. Depression and stress are suspected. Authorities are urgently coordinating information to proceed with legal actions.

At 13:30 on 5 Nov 2026, Police Lieutenant Phakdeephumin Daolomjan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Phra Pradaeng Police Station in Samut Prakan Province, received a report from local residents about a body floating in the Chao Phraya River near Buoy No. 1, close to the pier at Wat Bang Phueng, Soi Phra Ratcha Wiriyaphon 16, Bang Phueng Subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng District. He coordinated with volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation to inspect the scene.

Police and rescue teams deployed a boat to investigate and found a male body floating face down. They towed the body to the pier in front of Wat Bang Phueng for a preliminary examination. The deceased wore a black short-sleeved crew neck T-shirt and navy blue long pants. No wounds or signs of assault were found on the body, which is estimated to have been dead for about 2-3 days.

A search of the body revealed a black wallet containing over 1,000 baht in cash, a keychain, an ID card, and an official identification card from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s municipal affairs office. The victim was identified as Mr. Satienpong, 31, residing in Bang Duan Subdistrict, Phasi Charoen District, Bangkok. Police documented and collected evidence at the scene before handing the body to Ruamkatanyu Foundation to deliver to the forensic institute at Police General Hospital for a detailed autopsy and to notify relatives for funeral arrangements.

Investigators reviewed past reports and found that around 19:10 on 3 Nov 2026, a man jumped from Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge in Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok, into the Chao Phraya River and disappeared underwater. Verification confirmed this was the same person, Mr. Satienpong. Preliminary information indicates he suffered from depression and accumulated stress from personal problems, which is believed to have led to the incident.

Ms. Daranee Tapienthong, 62, a resident of the Wat Bang Phueng community, said she often saw bodies floating and getting caught near Wat Bang Phueng. She was unsure if currents caused this spot to frequently collect bodies, but recently this occurrence had decreased. Today, while eating nearby, she noticed a large police and rescue presence, approached the scene, and felt deep sympathy and sorrow for the deceased.

Staff Sergeant Major Atsadawut Somkliang, patrol team leader at Phra Pradaeng Police Station, said he received a report from locals and took a hired boat to investigate, finding the body floating face down near the Chao Phraya Riverbank. He immediately coordinated with rescue teams to retrieve the body. Initial reports indicated coordination with Khlong San Police and nearby areas regarding missing persons or water accidents. The investigation at Phra Pradaeng Police Station will continue to coordinate with the original jurisdiction to proceed with legal procedures.
