Khao Kheow Open Zoo has unveiled its new member, a 'red kangaroo joey' born to father Pong and mother Tao Tao, who has appeared from the mother's pouch for the first time after more than eight months of growth. Officials confirmed the joey is healthy and thriving without any issues.
On 23 December 2025 at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, shared the good news ahead of the year-end festival. The zoo welcomed a new 'red kangaroo joey' born to 5-year-old mother Tao Tao and 9-year-old father Pong. The joey was born in May and has now emerged from the mother's pouch for the first time after more than eight months of development inside, delighting and bringing smiles to many visitors.
Currently, the joey remains under the close care of its mother, so its sex cannot yet be determined. Officials report that the joey is healthy and well-developed. The zoo director has instructed staff in the exhibit area to exercise increased caution and continuously monitor the animal’s behavior to ensure its safety.
At present, Khao Kheow Open Zoo has a total of 14 red kangaroos. Visitors and the general public can admire the charm of the new member daily at the Australian animal exhibit (pink zone) within the zoo.
Additionally, Khao Kheow Open Zoo is hosting special activities to celebrate the year-end and welcome the New Year 2026, from 25 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. The event aims to create a joyful and warm atmosphere while promoting wildlife conservation participation. Activities include commemorative photos with a giant Christmas tree, merit-making to share kindness with wildlife for good luck in the New Year, gift-giving to animals, and booths for guests to create heartfelt gifts, providing enjoyment for visitors of all ages.
Furthermore, Khao Kheow Open Zoo offers special privileges with free admission for children and seniors from 31 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. Children must be 12 years old or younger or not taller than 135 centimeters, while seniors must be aged 60 or above.
