71 Cambodian Migrant Workers Caught Illegally Entering at Chanthaburi Border

The Chanthaburi Naval Task Force arrested 71 Cambodian migrant workers who illegally crossed the border in Chanthaburi Province. They admitted they fled to escape starvation in their home country.

On 13 Jan 2024 GMT+7, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, Navy spokesperson, revealed that early this morning (13 Jan), the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command, together with the Chanthaburi Naval Task Force, police, and immigration officers, jointly arrested Cambodian migrant workers who illegally entered the country near the Pong Nam Ron district border in Chanthaburi Province.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 71 Cambodian migrant workers, including men, women, and children, who had secretly traveled on foot through natural border paths at night. Initial questioning revealed they fled hunger in their country, reflecting the government's ongoing inability to ensure citizens' welfare.

The Navy detained the arrested individuals humanely and strictly adhered to the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act of 2022 before handing them over to investigators and immigration officials for legal proceedings.

The Navy affirmed it will continue to intensify patrols and surveillance along the eastern border to prevent illegal entry and reduce impacts on national security and public order.

Thanks to the Navy spokesperson for the information.
