Explosion Rocks Chonburi as 50,000-Liter Fuel Tank on Truck Blows Up, Killing Worker

A loud explosion shook Chonburi when an empty 50,000-liter fuel tank at the back of a truck detonated, fatally injuring a worker passing by. Police are urgently investigating the cause.

At 20:00 on 4 March 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Setthaphon Singnok, an investigator at Nong Kham Police Station in Si Racha district, Chonburi, received a report of an explosion involving an empty fuel tank at the rear of a truck. A worker passing by was caught in the blast and died at the scene. The incident occurred in a truck parking lot in Village 1, Nong Kham subdistrict, Si Racha district, Chonburi. He immediately went to the scene with investigators and emergency response personnel from Chao Phraya Surasak Municipality and Sawang Prateep Rescue Unit, Si Racha.

The scene was a truck parking area where debris from a white Isuzu 18-wheeler truck was found at the rear. The license plate was partially missing due to the blast’s force. The 50,000-liter fuel tank was torn apart and destroyed, but fortunately, it was empty at the time. Nearby in the grass was the body of the deceased, identified as Mr. Narong, 36, from Chainat Province, a worker at the truck lot. His body was severely torn, with parts scattered by the blast. Authorities secured the area to prevent further incidents.

Mr. Rangsarn, 51, said he learned that the truck had recently delivered fuel and was parked in the lot. No one had tampered with it. Suddenly, there was a loud explosion. When he looked back, he saw the fuel tank flying into the air before crashing down. The worker passing by was caught in the blast and died.

Officials have begun investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses. However, they are awaiting the arrival of the Chonburi Forensic Division 2 and experts for a thorough examination to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
