On 11 Mar 2016 at 13:45 GMT+7, the Satja Buddhatham Foundation radio center in Kabin Buri received a report of a fire beside a gas station located along Highway 304, Nakhon Ratchasima direction toward Kabin Buri, in Mueang Kao Subdistrict, Kabin Buri District, Prachinburi Province.
After receiving the report, local water trucks and nearby area units, along with firefighters from the Eastern region, were dispatched to support firefighting efforts at the scene.
At the scene, there was an old foam storage factory used for sorting and selling recycled materials including paper and plastic, located about 50 meters from the gas station. Large flames and thick black smoke were seen rising high, visible from up to 30 kilometers away. The fire was at level 5; officials deployed four water hoses but have yet to contain the blaze.
The factory workers were alarmed upon hearing the fire alert from the owner and fled immediately. Some drove forklifts out, others managed to save some belongings, but most property was lost. They sat watching the fire and cried because they could not retrieve 50,000 baht in cash and gold kept in the factory's residential quarters.
Authorities have closed traffic lanes heading toward Kabin Buri and allowed vehicles to use a single lane in the opposite direction toward Nakhon Ratchasima. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
Later, rescue teams, local administrative officials, and over 10 fire trucks from nearby subdistricts rushed to intensify firefighting efforts. Because the factory contained highly flammable materials and was adjacent to a gas station, locals feared the fire might spread to the fuel station.Firefighters have not yet been able to control the fire and have requested additional support from neighboring districts. Fire trucks were urgently dispatched to assist. The fire has been burning for over an hour with no containment yet.
