Farmers Distrustful, Queue to Buy Diesel Fearing Shortage for Rice Field Water Pumps

Farmersorchardists in Kamphaeng Phet province remain unconvinced by the government regardingthe fuelsituation, flocking in long lines to buy "diesel fuel," fearing shortages during irrigation of rice plants currently in the booting stage.

At 07:00 on 14 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters observed a lively atmosphere at gas stations across Kamphaeng Phet. Many citizens and farmers brought vehicles and jerrycans to queue for diesel, causing lines of cars stretching for kilometers on roads outside several stations.

A farmer with about 30 rai of rice fields said he brought two 20-liter jerrycans to queue for diesel to use in water pumps for irrigation. Since the rice is in the booting stage, which requires substantial water, any delay in pumping water could damage the plants and reduce yield. He expressed distrust in the government's claims of sufficient fuel supply.

He added that he woke up at 04:00 and rode a motorcycle to visit four gas stations in Kamphaeng Phet city but was unable to buy fuel until reaching the last station, where some diesel remained for farmers. He considered this fortunate.

At over 60 years old, he said this was the first time in his life he had seen people queueing with fuel containers like this. Although the government urged calm, assuring sufficient fuel availability, he still felt uncertain about the situation.

Outside the stations, various vehicles including sedans, pickups, trucks, and large buses lined up for fuel. Gas stations imposed limits on diesel sales to ensure fair distribution, allowing pickups to fill no more than 500 baht worth per visit.
