Rare to see, Khao Kheow Open Zoo has introduced a new member, a "two-toed sloth baby," the little heir of "Grandpa Flash and Elsa," and is preparing to let the public participate in naming it soon.
On 17 March 2026, reporters reported that at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, excitement was stirred by the unveiling of an adorable new member, the "two-toed sloth" (Linnaeus's Two-toed Sloth). This marks a significant success in caring for and breeding a rare wild animal species. The event was honored by Mr. Boonchob Sutthamanaswong, Chairman of the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, along with Mrs. Jongkolnee Kaewsod, Acting Director of the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, and Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, who jointly welcomed the new member in a warm atmosphere.
The highlight that brought smiles to visitors was the little sloth nicknamed "Little Flash," the young heir inheriting the family's signature slow and adorable movements, just like "Grandpa Flash," the beloved sloth, and his young mother "Elsa," aged six years (who received her name from Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi at the end of 2024).
The little sloth was born on 1 March. Although its gender is still unknown, it is in excellent health. On 15 March 2026, the veterinary team examined the baby and found it weighs 575 grams. The baby instinctively clings to its mother's belly at all times.
Mr. Boonchob Sutthamanaswongadded thatthe birth of this sloth reflects the high standards of wildlife care at Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Since sloths require very specific and natural environments to breed, this is a rare and special opportunity for visitors to witness.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo is open for visitors to see the adorable sloth family starting from 17 March 2026, as a welcoming gift for children during the school holiday period.
Additionally, the zoo is preparing an activity inviting the public to participate in naming the little sloth, with chances to win prizes and strengthen the bond between people and wildlife soon.
