Fishermen Alarmed by Invasion of Black-Chinned Snakehead in Pattaya Sea, Fear Ecological Impact

Fishermen have found a large invasion of "black-chinned snakehead fish" in the Pattaya sea, raising fears of impacts on local aquatic animals and calling on relevant agencies to manage the situation.

At 03:00 on 14 May 2026, a Facebook user named “Tart Channel,” with over 20,000 followers, posted a message and video after spotting many "black-chinned snakehead fish" near Pattaya beach, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. This caused alarm among fishermen, squid fishers, and numerous tourists who gathered to watch the scene.

Mr. Start Unkayan, 40, the video owner, revealed that he runs a fishing content channel and regularly fishes for squid at Pattaya beach. Recently, fellow fishermen informed him about a large school of black-chinned snakehead fish near Pattaya beach, prompting him to try netting to help control them.

The netting successfully caught a large number of black-chinned snakehead fish, which made him concerned about the marine ecosystem at Pattaya beach. He also questioned how this species could inhabit the seawater there.

He urged relevant authorities to promptly investigate and seriously find prevention measures, fearing that the black-chinned snakehead fish might harm local aquatic animals, including juvenile fish and squid. If allowed to reproduce extensively, it could negatively affect the marine ecosystem and coastal fishing livelihoods in the future.
