Nuts and Screws Scatter on Motorway Cause Dozens of Tire Punctures, Traffic Now Back to Normal

The Department of Highways is urgently tracking the vehicle responsible for dropping nuts and screws on Motorway M7, causing dozens of tire punctures and heavy traffic congestion. Traffic has now returned to normal, and authorities are investigating the vehicle responsible to hold them accountable for the damages.

On 12 June 2026, reporters reported that social media circulated images of heavy traffic congestion on the outbound side of Motorway No. 7 near kilometer marker 39+600 heading toward Pattaya. The cause was a vehicle that dropped nuts and screws all over the road, which following vehicles ran over, resulting in dozens of tire punctures in the afternoon.

Regarding this matter, the Department of Highways through the Expressway Highway District clarified that, based on preliminary data from the Expressway Control Center's cameras (CCB), the incident occurred on 12 June 2026 at approximately 12:38 PM. The cause was a pickup truck carrying cargo that was poorly covered and had an open tailgate, causing nuts and screws to scatter across the road surface, affecting drivers passing through that area.

After receiving the incident report from the Expressway Control Center (CCB) in Lat Krabang at about 12:52 PM, highway service officers, CCB staff, and highway police immediately responded and took control of the situation. They temporarily closed traffic to clear the debris and urgently inspect the road surface safety.

Currently, officials have removed all nuts and screws from the road surface and are conducting a detailed inspection to ensure no debris remains that could endanger road users. All traffic lanes were reopened at approximately 1:34 PM, and the public can now use the route as usual.

The Department of Highways is now collecting evidence from CCTV and traffic data to identify the responsible vehicle and track down involved parties to hold them legally accountable for the damages caused to the public. Initially, one affected person has reported the incident to the police.

Those affected by the incident can contact the Phan Thong Expressway Highway District at phone number 080-359-9395 to provide further information or report damages. Officials will gather the data and coordinate with relevant authorities accordingly.

The Department of Highways confirms it will conduct a thorough investigation and expedite efforts to hold responsible parties accountable as soon as possible. Meanwhile, if the public notices obstacles, debris, or unusual incidents on highways or expressways, they can report them anytime via the Department of Highways hotline at 1586, press 7, available 24 hours.
