Khao Kheow Open Zoo invites fans to join the celebration of “Mae Mali,” the beloved hippopotamus’s 61st birthday on 8 Sep 2026.


At 10:00 a.m. on 2 September 2026, at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, announced that the zoo will hold a birthday celebration for “Mae Mali,” the hippopotamus residing at the zoo who is the longest-living hippo in Thailand, marking her 61st birthday on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the hippopotamus exhibit at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Chonburi Province.

The event will feature many activities to show love and happiness to Mae Mali, including an exhibition showcasing facts and stories about her life, fun games with souvenir prizes, and an opportunity for visitors and fans to write birthday cards to send their best wishes to Mae Mali.

The main highlight of the event is the presentation of a specially prepared large fruit cake designed for Mae Mali’s health, along with a group singing session. “Happy Birthday” welcoming her 61st year amid a warm atmosphere shared by staff, visitors, and those attending the celebration.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo invites tourists, fans, and interested members of the public to be part of this special day and to share their love for “Mae Mali” the beloved hippopotamus who has long been a symbol at the zoo.
