In Rayong, late last night, a house fire spread to a tire shop. The homeowner couple fled into a bathroom but died from smoke inhalation. The damage is estimated at no less than 10 million baht.
On 11 Sep 2026 late at night, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nitinan Srirut, Deputy Investigation Officer at Map Ta Phut Police Station, Map Ta Phut Subdistrict, Mueang Rayong District, received a report of a fire at a tire shop along Sukhumvit Road. Upon receiving the report, he coordinated with firefighting units from Map Ta Phut Municipality and Rayong City Municipality.
Following the report, six fire trucks were dispatched to control the blaze engulfing the house and the adjacent tire shop. It took about 30 minutes to contain the fire. After the fire subsided, investigators found two deceased inside the bathroom of the house where the fire started. They were identified as Mr. Warasit, 72, and Mrs. Pornnipa, 64, the homeowners.
Additionally, several vehicles parked at the house and inside the tire shop were burned and damaged. These included customer vehicles and the homeowner Mr. Warasit's own cars.
Initially, Mr. Danai Wiriyasahakit, secretary to the Mayor of Rayong City Municipality, stated that the fire originated from Mr. Warasit's house, who owns the land. The tire shop at the front of the house operates as a rental business. After the fire broke out inside the house, it quickly spread to the tire shop. During the fire, the couple could not escape the house, so they took refuge in the bathroom but died from smoke inhalation.
As for the cause, officials have not yet determined whether it was due to an electrical short circuit or the large amount of items the couple had stored inside the house. The estimated damage exceeds 10 million baht. Authorities are awaiting forensic examination to determine the exact cause.
