At approximately 12:30 PM on 23 September 2026, Pattaya city in Chonburi province experienced heavy and continuous rain, resulting in rapid flooding in several low-lying and flood-prone areas. In some locations, water levels reached about one meter. Authorities moved quickly to drain the water and closed roads where flooding was severe to ensure public safety.
Inspections found multiple affected areas including Pattaya Third Road near the Corner Aroi restaurant, Sukhumvit Road near the Pattaya Highway, and the road along the railway near Wat Tham Samakkhi. Particularly in spots with deep flooding, small vehicles could not pass. Officials controlled traffic and accelerated drainage efforts to clear these areas.
This situation aligns with the Meteorological Department’s Announcement No. 4, which warned that from 23 to 27 September 2026, the eastern region would experience heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. This is due to a strong low-pressure area moving along a monsoon trough combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon. The department also cautioned about flash floods and water accumulation in low-lying areas.
For today’s forecast in the eastern region, the Meteorological Department reported an 80% chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain in some areas, with Chonburi province being one of the locations expecting heavy rainfall. From 23 to 27 September, the region has a 70-80% chance of thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain in certain areas.
Initially, Pattaya city officials continue to monitor the situation closely and are expediting water drainage at high-risk points. Meanwhile, residents are advised to avoid routes with deep flooding and to stay updated on the rainfall situation.
However, reports indicate that at 1:40 PM, water levels began to recede on South Pattaya’s Sukhumvit Road, allowing vehicles to move through normally again.
