
The Isan International Kite Festival 2025 has opened, raising the traditional kite-flying customs of the Isan people to an international level. It promotes tourism in Maha Sarakham Province and stimulates the local economy during the year-end period.
On 20 Dec 2025, at the Kaeng Loeng Chan Reservoir area in Kaeng Loeng Chan Subdistrict, Mueang Maha Sarakham District, Maha Sarakham Province, Mr. Chumpitch Decharat, Governor of Maha Sarakham, presided over the opening of the Isan International Kite Festival 2025 organized by the Maha Sarakham Chamber of Commerce. Present were Mr. Narong Laosuwan, Chairman of the Maha Sarakham Chamber of Commerce, chamber members, and local private sector representatives. The event aims to elevate Maha Sarakham's tourism to an international level, stimulate the economy, generate income for local businesses during the year-end, promote and preserve the kite-flying culture of the Isan people, foster cooperation between government, private sector, and civil society, and serve as a creative family activity promoting the city’s image as a center of learning.
The Isan International Kite Festival 2025 runs from 19–21 Dec 2025, featuring key activities such as parades of Thai and international kites, displays of international kites, traditional Thai kites, LED and glowing kites, Isan kites and string kites, kite-making demonstrations, Aak and Snoo kite competitions, and night-time glowing kite shows. The event also includes food and live music activities, attracting significant tourist interest.
Mr. Narong Laosuwan, Chairman of the Maha Sarakham Chamber of Commerce, stated that Maha Sarakham Province has outstanding potential in education, culture, and community lifestyle, as well as important tourism resources. Particularly, the scenic Kaeng Loeng Chan area is well-suited for large outdoor events. The Isan International Kite Festival 2025 at the Kaeng Loeng Chan Reservoir builds upon the Isan people's traditional kite-flying heritage to an international level, creating a cultural identity recognized nationally and internationally. It also stimulates the grassroots economy through tourism, dining, accommodation, community products, and local employment, leading to sustainable economic and tourism development for the province.
