OR's Chief Executive Officer highlights the vision of a Platform of Opportunity at the Sustainable Spark event by PTT Group, aiming to drive a business ecosystem that grows together with sustainability.
On 16 Jan, reporters reported that Mom Luang Peektong Thongyai, CEO of PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), shared his vision at the Sustainable Spark event by PTT Group under the concept "Sparking the Future: The Power to Ignite the Future" held at Siam Paragon, Bangkok. He presented OR’s vision and role in leveraging its business strengths to create a space of opportunity by passing opportunities through a strong platform into a Platform of Opportunity, fostering business growth alongside sustainable care for society, communities, and the environment.
Mom Luang Peektong said OR creates opportunities by recognizing the importance of conducting business while caring for society and the environment, aiming for sustainable growth. OR leverages its physical platforms—over 2,400 PTT service stations and more than 4,700 Café Amazon branches nationwide—to create shared value. This is realized through the 2030 business goals (OR 2030 Goals) focused on three key dimensions: building livable communities by improving the quality of life for over 17,000 communities or more than 12 million people; fostering economic prosperity by creating jobs and distributing wealth to partners, SMEs, and communities totaling over 1 million individuals; and promoting a healthy environment with a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than one-third compared to 2022, aiming to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, ultimately becoming a true Platform of Opportunity.
Regarding the approach to turning opportunities into sustainable results, a key challenge is building trust and confidence among communities or local areas to embrace change, develop products, and grow alongside OR. Since all changes require significant resources, communities must trust that OR can help them grow strong and self-reliant. Success factors include OR leveraging its strengths such as its nationwide physical platform, networks of government and private sector partners, a nationwide volunteer dealer and franchisee network, and OR employees whose DNA includes social care. Together, they create a sustainable ecosystem that opens spaces of opportunity, encouraging everyone’s participation to generate value and opportunities for society, yielding positive outcomes for both society and business. This is evident in projects like Thai Ded, which supports over 500 SMEs and generates more than 160 million baht annually for communities, and the Sharing Happiness Space project, which allows farmers to sell products rent-free, creating over 10 million baht in annual income for farmers.
Mom Luang Peektong added that Café Amazon also provides opportunities to society across the value chain, starting upstream with the Sustainable Coffee Sourcing project that promotes sustainable coffee farming for stable income for over 1,900 farmers, collaborating with local bakery shops, and downstream with the Café Amazon for Chance project, which creates sustainable jobs for vulnerable groups including people with disabilities and the elderly.
However, sustainability is not an additional business activity but embedded in OR’s mindset and operations. OR aims to build an ecosystem where everyone—including employees, partners, communities, and society—can grow together, ensuring the continuous expansion of sustainable outcomes.
