The grand opening of Pathumthani's first-ever kite show, the Pathumthani Kite Festival 2026, aims to boost the local economy through tourism.
At 17:30 on 13 March 2026, Mr. Pongsathorn Kanjanjitra, Deputy Governor of Pathumthani, together with Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thupkrachang, President of the Pathumthani Provincial Administrative Organization, and General Interactive Company Limited, the event organizer, jointly officiated the opening ceremony of the Pathumthani Kite Festival 2026 at the multi-purpose plaza of the Pathumthani PAO, Ban Chang Subdistrict, Mueang Pathumthani District, Pathumthani Province.
Inside the festival, there were displays of giant fancy kites, Thai kites from the four regions, a living Thai kite exhibition with demonstrations of kite-making, kite painting activities, kite crafting workshops, and live musical performances by singers. These activities were designed to raise awareness and promote tourism in Pathumthani.
Mr. Pongsathorn Kanjanjitra, Deputy Governor of Pathumthani, stated that kite flying is an ancient local art, culture, and wisdom, and a sport popular worldwide. It has evolved over centuries, changing in design and materials to become more modern. Today, kites are more beautiful and larger in structure, incorporating modern technology in their production, resulting in various shapes, structures, and playing styles that greatly captivate audiences.
This reflects the unique identity of each region in Thailand. Kite flying is not only a recreational activity that brings enjoyment but also serves as a medium to preserve local culture and strengthen community bonds. It represents cultural tourism and creative events, an important trend that attracts both Thai and international tourists.
The Pathumthani Kite Festival was organized to revive and promote the traditional Thai kite-flying custom, aiming to boost the local economy through eco-tourism and creative activities such as kite competitions, demonstrations of traditional kite making, and exhibitions about Thai kites. The project seeks participation from government agencies, private sectors, local residents, and neighboring communities to promote sustainable tourism alongside preserving Thai culture.
Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thupkrachang, President of the Pathumthani Provincial Administrative Organization, said the PAO recognizes the value of reviving and preserving the Thai kite-flying tradition, promoting tourism, and stimulating the local economy. Target groups include students, the general public, and others. The PAO has collaborated with Pathumthani Province, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Bangkok Office, and the Pathumthani Tourism and Sports Office to organize the Pathumthani Kite Festival 2026 from 13 to 14 March 2026 at the multi-purpose plaza of the Pathumthani PAO, Ban Chang Subdistrict, Mueang Pathumthani District, Pathumthani Province.
The festival aims to preserve culture, promote local wisdom, and sustain the Thai kite-flying tradition. It also seeks to enhance tourism in Pathumthani Province, encouraging more tourists to visit the area, thereby stimulating the local economy. The event serves to promote a positive image and publicize tourism in Pathumthani, increasing its recognition.
