A reporter reported that on 29 Mar 2026 GMT+7, at Thung Na Rong Sutin field, Jub Bang Village, Moo 6, Na Mai Subdistrict, Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province, a traditional sports competition was held. Villagers brought their "Rot Kratha" or rice carts to race for speed, competing for trophies and cash prizes. Over 50 rice carts from farmers in Pathum Thani and nearby provinces participated.
The competing carts had engine modifications and exhaust pipes to boost power. The race took place on harvested rice fields over a distance of 320 meters, providing entertainment and relaxation for farmers, gardeners, and many spectators who came to watch.
Mr. Kittisak Kaewsri, the head of Na Mai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, said that most locals in Lat Lum Kaeo are farmers cultivating rice and orchards. During this season, when farming activities pause, villagers seek activities to do. Together with village leaders and subdistrict officials, they organized the Rot Kratha competition for the fourth time this year to foster community fun and unity, building a positive image of mutual support that benefits local community development in the future.
The competition featured three categories: 100cc original engine "Ching Len" carts (factory-made), 100cc original engine "Ching Len" carts (machined), and 100cc original engine "Kaarn 3" front-long carts. Each team brought mechanics to tune and prepare their carts, matching the intensity of car racing. Mr. Sirapop Niyomkaew, the Lat Lum Kaeo district chief, presided over the opening ceremony.
Mr. Sutin Jub Bang, president of the Na Mai Subdistrict Rot Kratha Racing Club and organizer of the event, added that the competition aims to involve the community, foster unity and coexistence, preserve the beautiful local tradition, protect and showcase the rice farmer lifestyle, create recreational activities, and promote local tourism. After expenses, the proceeds will be donated to Na Mai Temple to support public welfare projects benefiting Buddhist devotees.
