The 2026 Thai Buffalo Racing Event Begins to Preserve Local Folk Traditions

The 3rd annual 2026 event to conserve the local tradition of Thai buffalo racing (land buffalo racing) has officially opened to continue preserving local folk customs from disappearing.

On 25 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters at the field beside the abandoned temple in Village 4, Samnak Bok Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi province, reported that Mr. Worachak Sathapornpinyo, the district chief of Mueang Chonburi, presided over the opening ceremony of the 3rd annual 2026 Thai buffalo racing tradition conservation event. Mrs. Puangphet Pitaksahaphum, chief executive of the Samnak Bok Subdistrict Administrative Organization, gave the report, accompanied by Mr. Seri Limrateepong, deputy chief of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization, members of the council, local leaders, and members of the public attending the event.

This local Thai buffalo racing tradition conservation project aims to preserve and continue local folk traditions to prevent them from disappearing. It also seeks to promote and stimulate cultural tourism within the community to foster unity among residents and encourage participation from all sectors.

Additionally, the event provides opportunities for farmers and buffalo breeders to showcase their skills and generate income through related activities. This supports the community's grassroots economy via trade activities, local product exhibitions, and services.

This year’s competition is divided into seven categories: Large Buffalo, Large Mini Buffalo, Small Mini Buffalo, Special Mini Buffalo, Super Mini Buffalo, Zing Mini Buffalo, and Newcomer Buffalo. Winners in each category receive honorary trophies and cash prizes.
