Excitement Builds as Chiang Mai Post Office Fans Anticipate World Cup Final Between Argentina and France, Approaching 10 Million Postcard Sales

In the final phase of the World Cup, Postal District 5 held a fortune-telling event at the Kruba Srivichai monument, the saint of Lanna, to predict favorite teams before embarking on a roadshow along the streets. They invited people from Chiang Mai and Lamphun to buy postcards for a chance to win prizes. It is expected that over 10 million postcards will be sold before the sales close.

At 09:09 on 15 Dec 2022 GMT+7, at the Kruba Srivichai monument plaza, the revered saint of Lanna, located on the route up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Mueang district, Chiang Mai, Postal District 5, led by Mr. Rangsit Phadungkij, assistant manager of Postal District 5, organized a roadshow selling postcards to predict the winner of the 2022 World Cup final between the Sky Blue team Argentina and the French team, Les Bleus. During the event, a fortune-telling ritual took place by placing both national flags into a lottery tube and shaking it. The result favored the Sky Blue team, Argentina, amid excitement from postal officials and attendees, as Argentina has previously been World Cup champion twice.

After the fortune-telling, the roadshow procession moved from the Kruba Srivichai monument plaza along Huay Kaew Road, reaching Chiang Mai Phu Kham intersection, turning right onto the canal road, passing Ton Payom Market, turning left onto Suthep Road, then onto the ring road around Chiang Mai city, heading towards the Three Kings Monument. This added vibrancy during the 2022 World Cup final stage.

Mr. Rangsit Phadungkij, assistant manager of Postal District 5, said today’s roadshow is the final push for postcard sales to meet the postal office’s target of 7.4 million cards. Currently, over 9 million cards have been sold, and sales are expected to exceed 10 million. The campaign has attracted strong interest from Chiang Mai residents. He invited people from Chiang Mai and nearby provinces to purchase postcards. Thairath Newspaper has partnered with Thailand Post, pricing each postcard at 2 baht, with total prizes of 15 million baht, including a 5 million baht top prize. Today’s fortune favored Argentina, and they hope it predicts the outcome. On Sunday, 18 Dec 2022 GMT+7, everyone will watch to see if Argentina wins their third World Cup title.

This World Cup final is highly anticipated as both teams have won twice before: Argentina in 1978 and 1986, and France in 1998 and 2018. This final is a showdown between two former two-time world champions, with fans eager to see which team will claim their third title.
