Doi Inthanon Experiences Continued Severe Cold with Temperatures Between -0.5 and -2.0°C, Frost Covers the Peak

Severe cold continues with grass-top temperatures at Doi Inthanon ranging from -0.5 to -2.0 degrees Celsius, causing frost to cover the entire mountain peak.

This morning (5 January), weather conditions at Doi Inthanon in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province—the highest mountain in Thailand—remain severely cold. Grass-top temperatures near the Doi Inthanon National Park Protection Unit were recorded at -0.5 degrees Celsius, while at kilometers 43-44, grass-top temperatures dropped to -2.0 degrees Celsius. This resulted in frost, formed by the freezing of dew on grass tips, creating white crystalline layers.

Frost also appeared on various surfaces such as stair railings and wooden chairs. This marks the 27th frost occurrence of this winter season and has persisted for 15 consecutive days since 22 December 2024.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperatures recorded were 3 degrees Celsius at the mountain peak, 4 degrees Celsius at Kew Mae Pan, and 8 degrees Celsius near the Doi Inthanon National Park office at kilometer 31. Tourists have been traveling to the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint and the mountain summit since early morning to witness the first sunlight and admire the beautiful sea of mist amid the cold weather, concluding the New Year holiday before returning home.
