On 7 Jan 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Jeeraniti Choengsa-ard, head of Doi Inthanon National Park, Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province, reported that the summit temperature of Doi Inthanon was 2°C, 3°C at Kew Mae Pan, and 8°C at the park office. White frost appeared continuously for the 29th time this winter. Grass tops recorded a temperature as low as minus 5.0°C at the ranger unit area, with white frost covering the area.
Meanwhile, tourists fully experienced the cold weather, enjoying the golden sunrise cutting through clouds beautifully and viewing the sea of mist at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint. They happily took photos and reminded visitors entering the park to exercise caution when driving uphill, advising to use low gears while ascending the mountain.
Ms. Nopparat Ritmahan, weather forecaster at the Northern Meteorological Center in Chiang Mai, reported that the general weather in Chiang Mai and the northern region is cold to very cold, with temperatures expected to drop another 1-3°C. This is due to a strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand.
Authorities advise the public to take care of their health due to the colder weather. Chiang Mai Province will experience a temperature drop of 1-3°C, with the lowest temperature at 14°C and the highest at 29°C. The mountain summits will be cold to very cold with some frost in certain areas, with temperatures ranging from 2°C to 8°C. Northeast winds will blow at speeds of 10-20 km/h.
