India Sends Military Transport Plane to Repatriate 228 Scammer Group Members

India sent a military transport plane to coordinate the repatriation of 228 Indian nationals, referred to as the "scammer group," who had worked in Myawaddy city. This followed their completion of background screening and passing the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) process.

At 3:00 p.m. on 7 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that the repatriation of the Indian scammer group to their home country took place today through cooperation among Thailand, Myanmar, and India. The Frontline Border Command Center coordinated with the Indian Embassy in Thailand to facilitate the return of their nationals to India.

The repatriation involved Indian scammers who had worked in Myawaddy city crossing via the 2nd Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge. They underwent background screening and passed the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) process conducted by Immigration Police in Tak province. Military personnel from the Ratchamanu Task Force of the Naresuan Force, Tak Immigration Checkpoint, Mae Sot Police Station, and Border Patrol Police Unit 346 assisted in facilitating the operation.

Subsequently, the group traveled to Mae Sot Airport, Tha Sai Luat Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, to board a single flight operated by the Indian Air Force C-130J transport aircraft, tail number IFC1465, departing at 3:00 p.m. The group comprised 228 Indian nationals, including 205 men and 23 women, who returned home on this flight.
