A fire broke out in a two-story twin house in central Chiang Mai, killing all five occupants. Firefighters took about an hour to put out the fire. The initial assumption is that it was caused by an electrical short circuit.
On 8 January 2026, it was reported that around midnight, a fire occurred at a residential house in Village No. 12 within Soi Ruan Kham 17, Pa Daet Subdistrict, Muang District, Chiang Mai Province. The house was part of a two-story twin housing development.
The fire spread rapidly inside the house, trapping five residents: a married couple, their twin daughters, and an elderly woman who was the grandmother.
Firefighters and multiple rescue units rushed to the scene and managed to evacuate all victims from the house. They performed CPR on site before transporting them to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. Unfortunately, all five later died. It took about one hour to control the fire, which caused severe damage to the home.
Muang Chiang Mai district officials inspected the scene and initially suspected the cause to be an electrical short circuit. Since the residents were asleep at the time, they could not escape in time. For the exact cause, forensic investigators will proceed with the necessary steps.
