Tourists Delighted as Chiang Mai Stays Cold This Morning, Doi Inthanon Hits a Low of 1 Degree Celsius

Chiang Mai remains continuously cold. This morning, Doi Inthanon's summit recorded a low of 1 degree Celsius. Tourists flocked to experience the chilly weather and witnessed the 40th frost occurrence of the year.

On 25 Jan 2026, reporters reported that this morning the temperature at Doi Inthanon summit in Chom Thong district dropped sharply again to just 1 degree Celsius. The grass-level temperature was 3.2 degrees Celsius. This marked the 40th frost event this year, setting a record for the most frost occurrences in nearly a decade.

The persistent cold weather has benefited tourism, with thousands of tourists traveling up to experience the cold, see the frost, and await sunrise above the sea of mist at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint continuously. Each visitor also brought blankets to withstand the chill.

Meanwhile, the Northern Meteorological Center stated that the cold will continue for some time due to a weak cold air mass from China still covering the northern region. For those who have not yet experienced the cold in Chiang Mai province this winter, it is advised to hurry, as this is expected to be the final phase of the season this year.
