Ranger Unit 32, integrating three agencies, stormed the 40-degree steep slope of Phu Wae Hill in Thung Chang District, Nan Province, closing down the opium cultivation. The operation reaffirmed a proactive drug suppression strategy as the opium plants were in full bloom.
On 7 February 2026, between 13:00 and 16:00, Pa Muang Task Force, led by Colonel Piyapong Phroda, commander of Ranger Unit 32, coordinated with the Thung Chang district administrative officers, Thung Chang Police Station, and Border Patrol Police Company 325, totaling about 30 personnel, to patrol and inspect the Phu Wae Hill area in Thung Chang District, Nan Province.
This operation followed a tip-off about illegal opium cultivation. Officials trekked to Ban Pang Kae, Village No. 7, a high mountain with slopes exceeding 40 degrees. They discovered an approximately one-rai opium field about 90% healthy, with plants about 60–80 centimeters tall, approximately three months old. The plants covered about 80% of the area and were in full bloom, ready for scoring to collect raw opium sap.
No suspicious persons were found during the inspection. Officials believe the cultivation was illicit. They proceeded to cut and burn the entire opium field, accelerating investigations to identify and prosecute the offenders under the law. Patrol intensity has increased to continuously monitor the area to prevent repeated illegal drug crop cultivation.
