Mackerel Sellers in Chiang Mai to Raise Prices by 5-10 Baht Due to High Fuel Costs

Rising fuel prices have had a severe impact, with mackerel vendors in Chiang Mai Province preparing to increase prices by 5-10 baht following higher transportation costs caused by the energy crisis.

On 26 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reports indicated that the impact of soaring fuel prices is spreading widely. One directly affected food item is steamed and fresh mackerel, as Chiang Mai imports mackerel from coastal provinces. The increased fuel costs inevitably raise transportation expenses.

A mackerel vendor at Siriwatthana Market in Mueang Chiang Mai District said they are preparing to raise the price of all types of mackerel by 5-10 baht per basket. They have been informed by suppliers that transportation fees will increase due to higher fuel prices. Since opening in the morning, they have informed customers, most of whom understand the situation and said they will continue buying as usual. The vendor appealed to the government to quickly solve the fuel price problem, as it affects every sector. However, they believe purchasing behavior will change, with customers likely buying smaller quantities to save money.

Another vendor selling processed foods such as meatballs, pork sausage, and rice noodles, Mrs. Napatsawan Chansa, said the shop has not yet raised prices because suppliers have not notified any increases. They are keeping prices the same to help customers for now. However, rice noodles are expected to rise by at least 2 baht per kilogram.
