A reporter reported that on 29 Mar 2026 at 18:20 GMT+7, the Pa Dam Cavalry Company, Chaiyanuphap Task Force, Pa Muang Task Force, by Infantry Company 4, Chaiyanuphap Task Force, together with Ranger Company 3207 under the 3rd Army Area Control Unit, conducted patrols to prevent and intercept violations under the Narcotics Act along the Pa Bong route, Nong Phai Village, Moo 15, Mon Pin Subdistrict, Fang District, Chiang Mai.
Later, about 15-20 suspicious individuals carrying sacks modified as backpacks were seen walking along the border route. Infantry Company 4 soldiers identified themselves to conduct a search, but the group opened fire with unknown type and caliber weapons, resulting in a roughly five-minute clash.
As a result, the officials were unharmed. Two additional operational teams and a drone unit were deployed to control the clash area and inspect the scene, finding 2 dead suspects, 18 sacks modified as backpacks containing 289 kilograms of Category 1 narcotics (ice), one AK-47 magazine with one bullet, five spent cartridges, and two mobile phones.
Later, at about 20:45 GMT+7 the same day, near the Pa Luang route in Pong Nam Ron Subdistrict, Fang District, Chiang Mai, authorities encountered about 10-15 drug traffickers entering the forest path. The patrol team signaled to search, but the traffickers fired unknown weapons, leading to another clash. After the confrontation ended, officials were safe and secured the area to inspect.
They found 6 deceased traffickers; the rest escaped due to limited visibility and their knowledge of the terrain.
The seized items included approximately 1,150,000 red 999-stamped methamphetamine pills (Category 1 narcotics), one mobile phone, one homemade long shotgun, one AK-47 magazine, six AK-47 cartridges, six mobile phones, and one radio transceiver.
On 30 Mar 2026, Major General Satit Waiyanon, Commander of Pa Muang Task Force and Director of the Anti-Narcotics Operations Center, assigned Colonel Meechai Nilsart, Deputy Commander of Pa Muang Task Force, to represent him along with Fang district officials, Border Patrol Police 334, and Fang Police to inspect the area and hold a press conference.
All seized items were handed over to investigators at Fang Police Station for legal action.
