Tragic Accident in Nan Province: Pickup Truck Loses Control on Huai Yen Curve, 8 Dead, 11 Injured

A tragic accident in Nan Province involved a pickup truck losing control on a curve and veering off the "Pua–Doi Phu Kha" highway in Pua District, resulting in 8 deaths and 11 injuries. Police are urgently investigating the cause.

On 18 April 2026 at 17:55, Police Lieutenant Satit Chaiworn, an investigator at Pua Police Station in Nan, received a report from the Nan City Radio Center 191 about a pickup truck losing control and going off the road on Highway 1256 between Pua and Doi Phu Kha National Park, near kilometer marker 8+700 at the Huai Yen curve. The location is at the boundary between Ban Nalae and Ban Mon villages, Woranakhon Subdistrict, Pua District, Nan Province. At the scene, 14 people were injured and 5 died.

The investigator coordinated with Nan Narenthorn Center 1669 and informed Police Colonel Boonsong Nikornthuen, Chief of Pua Police Station, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Diao Sriwichai,Deputy Superintendent of Police,, Police Lieutenant Nakhon Kanthasen,Investigation Officer,and Lieutenant Supot Mingpreecha, Deputy Investigation Officer of Pua Police Station, who ordered traffic police and relevant operational teams to urgently investigate the scene, alongside rescue teams from Somdej Phra Yuppharat Pua Hospital, the Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Pua Municipality, and Sila Laeng Municipality.

At the scene, 5 were found dead and 14 injured, soinitial first aid was provided to the injured,before transporting all toSomdej Phra Yuppharat Pua Hospital.Later, 3 more injured patients died at thehospital,bringing the total death toll from the accident to 8.

Authorities have initially controlled the situation andcleared the traffic to return to normal.The investigators are conducting a detailed examination of the accident's cause, initially suspecting that speeding on the curve, combined with road and visibility conditions, contributed to the crash. Further investigation will be conducted to confirm the exact cause.
