Chiang Mai University Elevates Thai-Chinese Cooperation with Beijing Liaison Center to Develop Human Capital and Innovation

Chiang Mai University has advanced its proactive international mission strategy by inaugurating the “CMU Liaison Center in Beijing,” aiming to build a Thai-Chinese cooperation network with the goal of developing regional human capital and innovation.

In Beijing, People's Republic of China, reporters noted that Chiang Mai University (CMU) is strengthening regional academic capabilities by officially launching the “Chiang Mai University Liaison Center in Beijing” in the Chaoyang District of Beijing. The center is intended to serve as a key hub for linking and exchanging knowledge in education, research, and innovation between Thailand and China closely and sustainably.

Professor Dr. Nopphong Sribunditmongkol, President of Chiang Mai University, described this vision by stating that establishing the liaison center demonstrates CMU’s firm commitment to developing personnel capacity across Asia. Collaborating with key partner Chelove International Education Group Co., Ltd., the university aims to enhance curricula, skill development, and research to meet the needs of both countries. CMU has an active plan to accommodate over 1,000 Chinese students and establish networks for educational, research, and innovation exchanges within five years to promote borderless human capital growth.

The opening ceremony received strong support from representatives of important agencies such as the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), and networks of partners, educational institutions, and leading organizations in China. This reflects close collaboration under the concept “Thailand-China, Not Far Apart, Like Siblings” and aligns with the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI) policy focused on building a shared future through knowledge and advanced technology exchange.

This liaison center serves not only as a gateway to academic cooperation in China but also as a space for cultural and language exchange, which is fundamental to fostering mutual understanding. CMU is ready to showcase the strengths of its international programs to welcome talented Chinese students to collaboratively create innovations that will drive regional progress.

This significant step in Beijing demonstrates Chiang Mai University’s dedication to learning and growing alongside its Chinese partner network, jointly promoting Asia as a global center for outstanding learning and innovation.
