Six-Wheel Truck from Mae Sai Highway District Skids, Hits Median, Overturns Seven Injured

A six-wheel truck from Mae Sai Highway District lost control and hit the road median before reaching Kiu Thapyang checkpoint in Chiang Rai. The vehicle overturned, spilling its load. Seven officials were injured and have been taken to hospital.

At 16:15 on 28 April 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Somkid Khamua, investigating officer at Mae Chan Police Station, Chiang Rai, received a report of a six-wheel truck from Mae Sai Highway District colliding with the median on Phaholyothin Road before the Kiu Thapyang checkpoint, Village No. 5, Mae Chan Subdistrict, Chiang Rai, with multiple injuries reported.

Officers went to the scene and found a yellow Isuzu six-wheel truck from Mae Sai Highway District, license plate 510402 Bangkok, which had hit the median before the Kiu Thapyang checkpoint and overturned onto its left side, spilling its cargo. More than 20 highway officials were seated in the truck bed, with seven injured, identified as follows:

1. Mr. Sarayut Pengdon, 43, from Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District.
2. Mr. Saroj Chaiyachomphu, 41, from Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District.
3. Mr. Warawut Jaroonkomnomrat, 23, from Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict.
4. Mr. Nopparat Thongumphai, 33, from Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District.
5. Mr. Jamnoon Wisetcharoentham, 47, from Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District.
6. Mr. Charan Yodsujai, 49, from Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District.
7. Mrs. A-Huey Chermu, 57, from Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District.

The truck was driven by Mr. Sarawut Jaikas, 49, from Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai, who was uninjured. Initial investigation revealed he had driven the truck to a water-pouring ceremony at the Chiang Rai Highway District office and was returning to the Mae Sai Highway District office near Ban Tham, Village 12, Pong Ngam Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai.

There were 20 officials seated in the truck bed. Upon reaching the scene just before the Kiu Thapyang checkpoint, heavy rain was falling. The driver braked to slow down for the checkpoint but lost control, hitting the median and overturning onto the left side. Seven injured were taken to Mae Chan Hospital for treatment. The investigation will continue.
