The Phetkasem Chiang Mai Foundation stepped in to help persuade the patient who escaped from the hospital and hid in an abandoned building. The patient was recently brought out safely.
On 12 May 2026, reporters reported that the Phetkasem Chiang Mai Foundation received a report of a patient escaping from a hospital and hiding in an abandoned building in Mueang district, Chiang Mai province. They intervened to assist after the patient was found hiding inside an abandoned dormitory, causing alarm among local residents.
Officials had to surround the area and carefully plan their assistance because the patient was paranoid and hallucinating due to drug use.
Initially, investigations revealed that the patient had a history related to drug abuse, which affected their mental state and emotional control. Rescue workers and involved teams used negotiation and persuasion to prevent harm to the patient and nearby people.
After some time managing the situation, officials successfully brought the patient out of the abandoned building safely and promptly returned them for hospital treatment, much to the relief of everyone involved.
However, the Phetkasem Chiang Mai Foundation stated that this incident serves as an important cautionary example highlighting the severe impacts of drug abuse, which not only damages physical health but also affects mental state and behavior, posing constant risks of danger.
