On 4 June 2026, reporters reported that a school shuttle van collided with a pickup truck at the Ban Huai Sai Khao three-way intersection, Village No. 3, Mae Ka Subdistrict, Fang District, Chiang Mai Province, injuring a total of 27 people. The incident occurred at approximately 16:45. Police Lieutenant Pattharaphong Paisankhamas, an investigator from Fang Police Station, arrived on scene after receiving a radio report of a mass casualty accident on the Fang–Mae Suai highway. He coordinated with Mae Ka rescue units, emergency responders, and relevant officials to urgently assist the victims.
Initial investigation found that at the scene, the pickup truck with license plate GOR 5219 Chiang Rai was heading from Fang District toward Mae Suai District near the intersection. Meanwhile, the school shuttle van, license plate NJ 5672 Chiang Mai, had overturned at the scene, where there was light rain.
The pickup truck sustained damage to its right side. The van lost control, hit a roadside electric pole pier, overturned, and fell off the road.
In total, 27 people were injured. Physicians at Fang Hospital immediately activated their emergency response plan. Emergency and rescue personnel in the area urgently transported the injured to the hospital. The assessment classified 2 patients as critically injured who remain hospitalized, 1 with moderate injuries, and 24 with minor injuries who were able to return home.
Of the injured requiring hospital treatment, 5 patients were admitted: 2 critical (red), 1 moderate (yellow), and the rest minor (green). Following the incident, Fang Hospital implemented its mass casualty emergency plan, mobilizing medical staff and coordinating with relevant agencies to systematically care for the injured. This response reflected ongoing emergency preparedness drills and medical readiness efforts.
Meanwhile, Fang Police Station officers are gathering evidence, interviewing those involved, and investigating the exact cause of the accident to proceed with legal actions accordingly.
