School Near Tak Border Ordered Closed After Myanmar Troops Reinforce, Raising Fears of Intense Fighting in Next 1-2 Days

Ban Mae Kon Ken School in Tak Province ordered closed due to special circumstances from fighting after over 200 Myanmar soldiers reinforced positions near the border, raising fears of heavy fighting in the next one to two days.

At 11:30 a.m. on 22 June 2026, reporters reported that Ban Mae Kon Ken School in Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, announced a special closure due to escalating fighting on the Myanmar side opposite, raising concerns for the safety of teachers and students.

Mr. Thawatchai Saengplaeng, director of Ban Mae Kon Ken School in Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, announced a special closure due to fighting on the Myanmar side opposite after reports that approximately 200 Myanmar soldiers reinforced the Pa Sak operation base in Myawaddy District, Myawaddy Province. It is expected they will attack resistance forces at Ban Phalu, opposite Ban Huay Maha Wong, Village No. 9, Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, within the next one to two days.

Based on a preliminary situation assessment with relevant agencies under the emergency plan, there is a risk to the safety of students and teachers from possible fighting. Therefore, Ban Mae Kon Ken School declared a special closure initially for one day, Monday, 22 June 2026. Classes will resume normally if the situation becomes sufficiently safe.
