Nan province has granted compensation to the family of a 69-year-old woman who collapsed and died while applying for the State Welfare Card and is accelerating the review of public service procedures
On 21 July 2026, the Facebook pageNan Provincial Public Relationsposted a message stating, "Nan province coordinated with relevant agencies to care for and assist the family of a deceased person after a citizen lost consciousness while traveling to apply for the State Welfare Card rights.
The case involved a citizen waiting to apply for the State Welfare Card at the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) Puang branch on 20 July 2026. One customer fainted and lost consciousness. Staff quickly provided assistance and took her to Somdet Phra Yuparat Puang Hospital, where CPR restored vital signs, but she later died at 04:00 on 21 July 2026 at the hospital.
After receiving the incident report, Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, Governor of Nan, closely monitored the situation and instructed local agencies to urgently provide initial relief. Puang District gave financial aid to the deceased's son, who is the family caretaker, coordinated with the Puang District Red Cross for additional livelihood support, and assigned the Skad Subdistrict Administrative Organization to manage funeral arrangements and continue assisting the family according to government rights and regulations to ensure appropriate care in all aspects.
Additionally, the Governor ordered all relevant agencies to urgently review public service approaches, especially for elderly, disabled, and health-risk individuals. This includes facilitating services, managing queues and waiting areas, monitoring service users' conditions, and coordinating medical emergency responses to enhance safety, speed, and better meet public needs."
