CCTV captured a former school director driving under the influence, weaving and crossing lanes before hitting a 14-year-old female student and school athlete who died. The driver expressed remorse and plans to ordain in a funeral rite for her.
At 20:30 on 20 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Theera Suma, investigator at Mae Tha Police Station, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province, received a report of a fatal vehicle collision in front of a gas station in Village No. 8, Nakrua Subdistrict, Mae Tha District. Rescue teams from the Mae Tha Rescue Association were dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, the body of Pasinee, or Nong Kaimook, aged 14, a grade 8 student at Mae Tha Wittaya School and a school volleyball athlete, was found with a broken neck and severe injuries. Nearby was a white Honda motorcycle without a license plate, badly damaged. The involved vehicle was a gray old-model Isuzu pickup truck, front damaged, driven by Mr. Wat, 63, a former school director in Mae Tha District. He appeared intoxicated and awaited authorities. A breathalyzer test registered 171 mg% blood alcohol concentration, as previously reported.
Update: At 8:30 on 22 July 2026, reporters visited about 200 meters before the accident site, near Phromphiram Temple, Nakrua Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province. CCTV footage from 20:24 on the day of the incident showed a car driving normally, forced to swerve to avoid the former director’s pickup truck, which was drifting into lanes and honking loudly. The pickup clearly crossed into the opposite lane before seconds later crashing into Nong Kaimook’s motorcycle, causing her death at the scene.
Nearby residents reported that they saw the former school director’s pickup veer into the opposite lane, nearly hitting a car traveling normally. Fortunately, that driver swerved in time. The pickup also nearly crashed into a roadside shop, prompting the vendor to come out and witness the pickup hitting Nong Kaimook’s motorcycle, which she was riding normally before the driver promptly alerted authorities.
Reporters visited the home of Mr. Wat, the former school director. He initially declined to comment due to sorrow over the incident. Afterward, he provided some money, unrelated to official compensation, to Nong Kaimook’s family to help with funeral expenses and attended the funeral from the first day. He also plans to ordain in a funeral rite for Nong Kaimook. He expressed deep regret and a willingness to assist the family, while stating that legal matters will proceed accordingly. Currently, his focus is on supporting the funeral arrangements for Nong Kaimook.
